Dental Exams & Cleaning
A check-up and clean lays the foundation for us and projects the start of your dental journey. In this appointment we would like to get to know you and as well as any concerns you have with your mouth and what goals you want to achieve with your mouth.
Here is what a check-up and clean entails:
- Consultation.
- 2 X-rays. One on each side of your face.
- Thorough examination of each tooth.
- Analysis of your Gums.
- Photos.
- Evaluate current dental work.
- Scale and Clean and Polish.
- Application of fluoride gel.
- Oral Hygiene Instructions tailored for you.
It is essential that you visit a dentist for a check-up and clean every 6 months. This to prevent plaque from building up in the mouth. If left unchecked, plaque can harden and stick to your teeth which would be impossible to remove with normal brushing at home and so you need to visit a dentist to scale it away. This ‘hard plaque’ is known as calculus. This is why before you visit a dentist, even though you cleaned your teeth as much as you could we as dentists can still determine you haven’t been brushing properly or you haven’t been seeing the dentist often. We look for the calculus!
Why Do I Need X-rays?
Digital radiography allows us to see areas throughout your mouth that aren’t visible during a regular exam. Small cavities, cysts, bone loss and abscesses are just a few examples. Fortunately, today’s technology uses as much as 90% less radiation as conventional dental X-rays, making them safer than ever.
Since digital imaging is instantly available, you’ll enjoy a more efficient appointment and be able to co-diagnose your condition alongside our dentists.
